By the title name, it is not difficult to know the genre of this drama. The audiences can expect what they will see in the drama, such as love, message etc. As mentions before, this drama has brings out the situation that people communicate with others by the smart phone. From the iconography side, Swipe Tap Love brings out the people lack of communication because the trends on smart phone apps like whatsapp. Even though people can chat with others on those apps, they may not get the reply after the others were read. The one who was send the message should wait for the respond. Another situation is lie between people. Those people are chatting by typing words. People may lie by the text because it is hard for the receiver know it is a lie. For example, in episode 2, Yu’s boyfriend would like to have a drink with his friends and he types the words to send to Yu. However, he just types another situation and lie to Yu.
In Lok’s family, it shows the situation that man take the responsibilities on housework. In the day time, Lok has a job in a company. After work, he takes the housework and takes care of the child. Lok’s wife is a doctor. She cannot take care of the housework because the working time of her job is not stable. Their child was take care by Yu’s mother, mamayu when they both go for work. It is a trend in contemporary.
From characters side, the main characters in the drama are quite simple. They do not have a special role in the society. Both of them are an employee in the company. The linking of two families, Yu’s and Lok’s, seems to be mamayu. However, they had met each other before and they do not know.
In Swipe Tap Love, the date of 9th September in 2009 was point out by the Yu. People think that day is meaning as long as forever because the number of nine. By Yu’s script, someone find the important one in that day but also someone who cannot say goodbye to the important one. It brings out that something should speak to the one who you want to say to on time.
There is a special element through the drama. That is the background music in the drama. There are different songs, especially the songs which are popular in the past, in each episode. Those songs have brings out some collective memories when the songs play with the plot. For example, when Yu’s friend decides to date with her old friend, who is Lok’s friend, the background music is ‘Brave’ which sang by Miriam Yeung. The lyrics and the music are match to the situation and the audiences may have the collective memories when they listen to ‘Brave”.
To conclude, Swipe Tap Love is a typical romance drama of TVB. It lets people introspection the communication by using smart phone and the value of time.
